Located steps from the Bryn Mawr Red Line, Edgewater Piano Studio offers private and small group lessons tailored to each student's goals and experience. With over 15 years of international teaching experience, I focus on musical expression, solid technique, and joyful learning.

About the Teacher

My name is Katja. I've taught piano in Seoul, Amsterdam, and now Chicago — and somehow, the most important things I've learned about music, I learned from my students.
I hold a master's in jazz piano from the Conservatory of Amsterdam and have taught at the Royal Conservatory in the Netherlands. But credentials only tell part of the story. What I actually bring to every lesson is 15 years of watching people — children and adults — discover something in music they didn't know they were looking for.
I don't teach piano the same way twice. Because no two people hear it the same way. A 4-year-old finding middle C for the first time needs something completely different than an adult finally learning the piece they've carried in their head for twenty years. I pay attention to that difference.
My lessons are built on strong foundations, genuine curiosity, and the belief that every student already has something worth developing — they just need the right environment to find it.
